The Long Island Iced Tea was the most popular cocktail at a 40th birthday party the Cocktail Shaker Boys recently helped out at. The September party in Market Harborough was booked at the old Grammar School.

It is strongly alcoholic, and really helped get the party started ! Also on offer were the classic Pina Colada, the Mimosa a great drink containing Grand Marnier, orange juice then topped up with cava, and one of our personal favourites the Grasshopper. It is a great blend of cream, chocolate liqueur (creme de cacao) and creme de menthe.

However given the success of the Long Island Iced Tea, we thought we’d share the recipe with you. Start with a long straight sided glass known as a Highball. Into your cocktail shaker goes one measure of vodka, one of gin, one of light rum (usually Bacardi), one tequila (we used the slightly more complex gold tequila in ours) and half a measure of Cointreau plus half a measure of lemon juice. Shake the mixture up with some ice in your cocktail shaker, and then pour into your glass. Finally top up with coke and you have one popular cocktail. Straws and a parasol and the job’s a good ‘un !
