Getting started

Getting started with making cocktails at home. It is easy really, though like anything, the more time and effort you want to put in, the better the end result will be !

First thing then apart from the spirits, liqueurs and mixers is that you need a selection of glasses.

You can get some good dayglo straws from Sainsburys for not a lot of money. You’ll need the umbrellas (parasols) as that is a statement that makes your drink a cocktail. However we’ve noticed less cocktails come with these adornments these days.

Straws are reusable provided the ends haven’t been chewed and you may struggle if you have cream based drinks, as it’s difficult to get all the glutinous drink out.

You need ice. You can also download our planning list by e-mailing us at info@cocktailshakerboys.co.uk.

Understand the difference between spirits and liqueurs. Most cocktails contain at least one spirit and there are really only 6 so that’s easily sorted.

You simply need Whisky (and no Southern Comfort isn’t a type of whisky), Gin, Vodka, Rum, Brandy and Tequila. Try mixing your own and above all have fun.
