You’re having a party or an event, and you want to create that certain atmosphere, which will make your party memorable and different. A touch of glamour and a great set of memories for your guests to take away.
You’re already interested in cocktails at your event (that’s why you’re here after all) and having a theme would round off the event. A great excuse to dress up and have an evening where everything fits together : the food, the drink and your costumes.
the 3 cocktail eras
1930s prohibition in America. This was the first great era for the development of cocktails. Sure they existed in varying forms before this, but it was (ironically) the banning of the production and consumption of alcohol between 1919-1933 which gave the kick-start to cocktails.
And what a great theme this makes for cocktails and dressing up. Flapper girls with drop waisted dresses, head gear and long pearls and guys in sharp suits, slicked back hair, and trilbys. We can put together a cracking menu for your event of cocktails from this era. So no vodka or tequila, but a menu which features strong, short, spirity cocktails with exciting and complex flavours.
1980s was a great renaissance for cocktails. In came long fruity cocktails in wild colours. Think ‘over the top’ glass decorations featuring parasols, furry animals and straws. In came the Tequila Sunrise, the Harvey Wallbanger, the Pina Colada and the Freddy Fudpucker. And the most famous cocktail drinker of the era was undoubtedly Del Boy. Along with the shoulder pads and white stilettos, and big hair for the ladies, the boys were in wild Hawaiian shirts, pastel trousers and again big hair.
The sophisticated modern day. Now cocktail fashions have changed again. We now have simple decoration, no parasols, but a range of flavours and ingredients that simply didn’t exist in the 80s. Imagine cocktails that include just a little / a mere soupcon of rose, or lavender or liquorice, or lychee, or mango, or raspberry, or apricot and you have a modern ‘right on it’ modern cocktail.
Needless to say as we’re the Cocktail Shaker Boys we can offer all of these. The clue’s in our name! If you are planning out a party and want to have a theme – talk to us. We can offer you a menu to suit the occasion.
We do ‘light’ menus for afternoon or early evening parties. We have menus specifically for hen parties or bridal showers as they appear to be called in some quarters, and we can produce cocktail menus to fit a budget.
