Cocktails like anything evolve. Fashions change styles of cocktails come into fashion, others fade from view. While we’re not in the business of serving an unlimited number of cocktails to unlimited guests, nevertheless we’re always interested in mixing it up a little and offering up unusual and new cocktails. Some of these we formulate ourselves in the cocktail apothecary, some we discover in bars and books and by talking to others.
Our next event for instance a 70th birthday party in Leicestershire features the new Salted Caramel Alexander as well as a spicy variant of the Cosmopolitan, complete with our house-infused chilli pepper vodka. Alongside this will be a modern classic the Caipirinha as well as 2 that were big during prohibition (back in the 1920s.) The Whiskey Sour and the sparkly French 75. So a real mixed line up. That’s exactly how we like it and as long as the guest enjoy it too, then we’re happy.
Salted Caramel Alexander
This is based closely on the old classic the Brandy Alexander which we think was probably part of the blueprint for the development of Bailey’s Irish Cream back in the 1980s. We make ours with some ice in the shaker and the following;
- 1 msr Stoli Salted Karamel vodka
- 1 msr French brandy
- 2 msrs dark creme de cacao
- 2 msrs whipping cream
Shake all the ingredients with ice and serve into a Martini glass. Feel free to grate a few chocolate shavings on the top if you want that extra touch of indulgence. Admittedly nutmeg is the standard topping for the traditional Brandy Alexander but we think chocolate will suit the ingredients in this cocktail better.
